It was an absolute Honor for Judy and I to represent Australia at the First in Person GBOA Meeting since the Charter Approval of our AU Society. My hope is for this pandemic to end and our AU DGG will be able to attend next year.
The GBOA was opened with great pomp by the Mayflower Guard in full uniform. Very well done and spectacular to watch. The entire GSMD Officers and Executive Committee was present with only one absent, Surgeon General Hill. The Societies were well represented with 52 present and only 2 absent.
We were introduced to our new Executive Director Mark Schmidt.
The announcement was made for the GSMD Heritage Week Breakfast to be on April 13, 2022 in Washington DC. Watch the Mayflower Quarterly for more on this. It is a nice event and a good excuse to enjoy DC.
As we all know, our 2020 Congress was held via ZOOM, because of this Former Governor Dr. George Garmany announced and presented the 2020 Governor General’s Awards to 1. The California Society for the Rose Parade Float, and 2. Mr. Ronald Filson for his work as Project Manager on the “Pilgrim Meeting House” restoration and his work in overseeing of the Gov. Bradford Statue in the Mayflower Gardens. The Gov. General’s Distinguished Service Award was presented to Former Counselor General, Richard ‘Dick’ Gilmore for his many years of service and his work on securing the Deed to our property at 64 Corn Hill Rd, Tauro, MA.
Governor General Jane Hurt presented Special Recognition Awards to Ashley Silverman, Lorrie Link and Lea Sinclair-Filson. The 2021 Governor General’s Distinguished Service Award was presented to Christine Schlosser for her work on our new GSMD web site.
The 2021 Audit was presented and approved.
Three Amendments were presented by the Executive Committee. All three were needed for it to be legal for Electronic Meetings to be held under Commonwealth of Massachusetts Law. All three amendments were amended to clarify wording and approved. These amendments will now move forward to Mayflower Congress in 2023 for final approval.
Due to the resignation of our Treasurer General Liz Goudreau, a ‘Special Election’ was held. Bart Henson of the Finance and Audit Committee’s was elected unanimously to fill the remainder of the 2021-2023 Term.
The 2022 GBOA Meeting will be held from September 5-12, 2022 in Bloomington, Minnesota.
2023 Triennial Congress will be held in Plymouth.
2024 GBOA will be held in North Carolina
